Chapter 13 In a Nutshell
The cosmos is permeated, penetrated, and filled with a Cosmic Life. The world is a combination of matter and energy. It is everything and in everything.
It thinks, and it takes the shape of what it thinks about. Idea of a shape produces a form; thought of motion initiates motion. The visible world exists because it is in the mind of the Ultimate Subject.
Within oneself, man’s ideas have controlling or formative power. Thoughts bring about what they consider; ideas bring about what they envision. Until man continues to think about illness conditions and movements, disease conditions and motions will be in him. To keep a healthy body, man should solely focus on health.
In order to be healthy, people must believe they are free of disease and that everything is working as it should. He must not allow a notion of unhealthy or abnormal conditions or functioning to enter his head under any circumstances.
One must focus on keeping a strong, healthy body and clear mind in order to think exclusively on the healthy. He can’t have perfect health even if he knows he is living incorrectly or unwell. Or, even if he has concerns as to whether or not he is living healthily. To have good health, you must have healthy ideas and have healthy behaviors. Eat, drink, breathe, and sleep, voluntary activities of life. When a person focuses solely on being healthy and doing all of their exterior duties, they must have excellent health.
to eat is to be led by one’s appetite He must be able to differentiate between hunger and desire, and between hunger and the habits that hunger induces. It is important that he understand that true hunger is never present after normal sleep, and that demanding a meal early in the morning is only based on habit and desire. He will need to wait until he gets an Earned Hunger, which, in most instances, happens about midday. It doesn’t matter what his state is, his profession, or the circumstances; he must adhere to a strict fasting rule: and it’s much better to fast for many hours after being hungry than to eat before feeling hungry. Even while being hungry for a few hours will not physically harm you, putting food in your stomach when you are not hungry will make you feel uncomfortable. If you’re never indulging until you’ve earned it, you can be sure that as far as eating time is concerned, you’re doing just well. This is self-evident.
The intelligence which has established that individuals in a certain geographical area must consume the most basic foods for sustenance must be consulted when deciding what to eat. Let God be your guide. Nothing else counts. Don’t concern yourself with debates about the relative benefits of cooked and raw meals, veggies and meats, or your dietary needs for carbs and proteins. Eat only when you are really hungry, and then consume the popular foodstuffs of the area in which you reside with total faith that the outcomes will be satisfactory. It will happen. When simple foods don’t “taste nice,” force yourself to eat and drink them until they do. Be sure not to search for “light” meals; instead, choose readily digested, or “healthy” foods. Eating should be guided by logic. We may observe that incorrect thinking about business and related things has created an unhealthy habit of eating too quickly and not chewing enough. Reason instructs us that food should be chewed, and the longer the chew the more prepared for digesting chemistry. In addition, we can observe that the guy who consumes his meal with care and concentration, paying attention to the experience of flavor rather than on anything else, would get greater pleasure from the experience. To maintain good health, a person must focus on their meal and enjoy it; then, they must reduce each mouthful to a liquid before eating it. Follow these directions, and the eating function will be flawless. Nothing can be added to that list.
Man must be led by the same inner wisdom, or Principle of Health, which informs him when food is needed. To stop eating when he is no longer hungry, he must not consume food for any other reason. When the inner desire for food stops, he will never overeat since the role of providing the body with food is being fulfilled in a healthy way.
There is nothing in all the preceding that cannot be readily performed by anybody. Once this technique is implemented, flawless digestion and absorption will be assured; while worry and cautious thinking would go from the mind completely. Eat each bite to a liquid and never stop when you feel satiated.
The significance of the mental attitude justifies an extra term. When you are eating, keep in mind only healthy conditions and proper operation. You should savor your meal, speak about the tastes and enjoy it. Always praise what you enjoy, never talk poorly of something you hate. Never talk about the wholesomeness or unwholesomenness of foods; never think about it. Pass anything on the table that you do not care about with quiet or praise; never talk negatively or raise objections. When you eat, you should be thankful and single-minded about it. When you begin to eat quickly or to speak carelessly, just hit the brakes and start again.
A self-controlling and self-directing person can never expect to become one until they can master themselves in the simplest and most basic matter: the way and technique of their eating. If you can’t control yourself, you cannot control yourself in anything worthwhile. On the other hand, if you follow the aforementioned guidelines, you can rest certain that so far as thinking correctly and eating correctly are concerned, you are following a completely scientific approach; and you may be assured that if you keep reading, you will soon have a healthy physique.
