CHAPTER 1 The Principle of Health
In the personal application of the Science of Being Well, some basic facts must be embraced without doubt. These facts we express here:
Functioning normally defines health; and normal functioning comes from the natural activity of the Principle of Life. The principle of life is the One Living Substance from which all things are created. This Living Substance is present in all things like a refined and diffuse ether. It’s all there is: Life is contained inside it.
Man is a living being having a Life Force energy inside of him. the principle is the source Health in man, when fully constructively active, causes all of his voluntary functions to operate properly.
Health is the true healer; and it is enhanced by thinking in a certain way.
My final remark will be proven. Cures come from a variety of techniques found in the healing arts. Homeopaths use the poison of the illness, but also use high doses of a counter-poison. The homeopathic treatment of a sickness has been well shown, while the allopathic treatment of the same illness has never been shown to be effective. While they have fundamentally different theoretical origins, both practices “cure” most illnesses. To add to that, doctors employ different treatments in each institution. It is almost certain that no one of the treatments has any of the components found in the others. It seems that their patients’ illnesses are cured by a factor inside them, and not anything external, like medicines.
Also, we see the same illnesses treated by the osteopath by spine manipulations; by faith healers by prayer; by food scientists by bill of fare; by Christian Scientists by creed statements; by mental scientists by affirmation; and by hygienists by different life plans. We can only conclude that there is a universal Principle of Health, which does all the cures, and that something in all of the treatments (regardless of how they are delivered) initiates the function of the universal Principle of Health. That means medications, surgeries, prayers, billings, affirmations, and hygienic practices work anytime they prompt the Principle of Health to activate; and don’t when they don’t. This clearly implies that the outcomes rely on the patient’s approach to treatment, rather than on the prescription’s contents.
There is an ancient tale which I’ll share here to illustrate my argument. Saintly relics at a monastery are said to have performed miracles of healing, with a large number of those who came to touch them being cured. Before this, on one of these instances, some blasphemous rogue was able to enter the case in which the wonder-working relics were stored and took the bones. At daybreak, the fathers discovered that they had lost the source of the miracle-working ability. They decided to keep the issue secret, and they hurried to the convent’s basement, where they discovered the bones of a murdered individual who had been buried many years before. The ill and infirm were included into the case, with the intent of having a convincing explanation if the saint failed to accomplish his customary miracles that day. For those who were watching, the perpetrator’s bones did as good a job as the victim’s; and the mending proceeded as normal. The narrative records that one of the fathers proclaimed that, in his estimation, the healing power had always been present in the people, not in the bones.
The ending of the tale applies to all the systems’ remedies. The Power that Heals is in the patient himself; and whether it becomes active or not depends solely on the patient’s attitude. Jesus teaches the universal principle of life, a tremendous spiritual healing power, and a principle of health which is connected to it. As a guy thinks, it’s dormant or active. In whatever manner he thinks of it, he can always speed it up.
It is not necessary to choose a system or locate a cure; individuals with your same illnesses have been helped by all systems and all medicines. There is no dependence on environment. Some individuals are healthy in all climates. It doesn’t rely on avocation, unless individuals who work in potentially toxic circumstances are doing it as a hobby. It all relies on what you believe and do from here on out.
What a guy believes about something determines his thoughts about it. His faith directs his ideas, and the outcomes rely on his applying faith. When a guy has confidence in the effectiveness of a drug, and applies that confidence to himself, that drug will successfully treat him; but, he will not recover until he applies it to himself. Faith motivates others, but it doesn’t help patients. Therefore, if he has confidence in a diet plan and can apply that faith, he will be cured; if he has trust in prayers and affirmations and can apply that faith, he will be cured. Faith can help, but it has to be directly applied for it to have an effect. The Science of Well-Being, therefore, incorporates both thoughts and actions. We must apply our thinking to ourselves and exhibit it in our outer lives by behaving in the same manner we think.
