Chapter 15 Sleep

sleep revives vital energy People, mammals, reptiles, fish, and insects all need sleep, and even plants have cycles of rest. In sleep, we come into touch with the Principle of Life in nature, and our own lives may be rejuvenated. During sleep, our brain is replenished with essential vitality, and the Principle of Health inside us is restored. It is thus critical that we sleep naturally, normally, and healthily.

In sleep, the breathing is considerably deeper, more forceful and regular. The Principle of Renewal is best supported by the fact that far more air is inspired while sleeping than when awake. Start by making sure that you have enough fresh and clean air to breathe. Doctors have discovered that sleeping in the clean outside air is very effective in treating pulmonary disease; furthermore, as recommended in this book, you will find that it is just as effective in healing all other types of problems. Use no half-measures while ensuring clean air while you sleep. Make your bedroom almost identical to sleeping outside by properly ventilating it. Have open doors or windows on all sides of the room, if feasible. Bring the head of your bed as near to the open window as possible to get a better draft of fresh air. Even if the weather is cold or unpleasant, open a window and get fresh air flowing throughout the space. Keep yourself warm by piling more bedclothes on you; yet use fresh air from the outside. This is the primary need for good sleep.

You must sleep in an environment that has the fresh, natural Principle of Life in it in order to benefit from your brain and nerve centers. Do not compromise; thoroughly ventilate your sleeping quarters, and allow fresh air to circulate while you sleep. Shutting your bedroom doors in the winter or summer when you go to sleep isn’t a good way to sleep. fresh air If you can’t find fresh air, relocate. If your bedroom cannot be ventilated, relocate.

Next in significance is the way you get into sleep. It is best to sleep and dream well-intended, with purpose. Believe that sleep is a magical cure-all, and lie down with confidence that you will wake refreshed and strong. Put purpose into your sleep, and give the issue your focus for a few minutes before you slumber. Don’t expect to find your sofa in a cheerful mood; go there to be made whole. Remind yourself to thank God for having given you the path to perfect health, and shut your eyes with that thankful thought in the forefront of your mind. A nightly prayer of gratitude is an excellent thing; it gets the Principle of Health to communicate with its source, which delivers fresh energy while you are asleep.

You may notice that getting a good night’s sleep is not hard. First, ensure that you are breathing clean outside air while you sleep; and, second, devote a few minutes of gratitude to the Divine via appreciative meditation as you fall asleep. Go to sleep with a grateful and confident mindset, and all will be fine. Don’t let sleeplessness bother you. As you lay awake, formulate your idea of health; appreciate your rich existence with gratitude; and take a deep breath; and you will sleep well. Insomnia, like every other illness, must give way before the Principle of Health.

People now understand that it is neither burdensome or unpleasant to execute voluntary tasks of life in a healthy manner. It is the easiest, simplest, most natural, and most enjoyable method. Health does not constitute an arduous, creative or hard task. Simply do away with artificial observances of every sort, and eat, drink, breathe, and sleep in the most natural and pleasant manner.
