Health from God from the Science of Being Well

This chapter will detail how man may get health from the Supreme. By Supreme I mean the Thinking Substance, which is in all things and seeks to become more prominent and powerful. Intelligent Substance pervades and penetrates all things, and is in contact with all minds. In Swedenborg’s view, life’s “influx” flows from nature’s source of all energy and force. It is serving one goal and that aim is the development of life toward full manifestation of the self (or Mind). When man connects with this Intelligence, it will offer him health and knowledge. When a person sticks to their goals, they eventually discover the Supreme Intelligence.

The Supreme Intelligence’s goal is the most plentiful life for everyone; and for you, that you might live abundantly. The Supreme is working with you, and you must be working with It. But if you join with the Supreme Intelligence, you must want to help and benefit everyone, as well as yourself. In tune with the Supreme Intelligence, you get two tremendous advantages.

It starts with knowledge. Wisdom is seeing and understanding facts, and making judgements while in all things having to do with life. Wisdom is the capacity to recognize truth and use knowledge of truth. can see at once what one should be striving for and how to achieve it Wisdom brings composure, and the ability to regulate and direct your ideas; or avoiding problems from incorrect thinking. Wisdom will help you choose the appropriate paths for your requirements, and to so lead yourself that you may get the greatest outcomes. You will be able to achieve your goals. In order to have knowledge, you must integrate and unite your intellect with the Supreme Intelligence.

I’m repeating what I said before. To comprehend this Intelligence, you must unite with It. If your goal or your aim causes anybody to be oppressed, or to experience injustice, or denies anyone their life, you will not receive divine guidance. Also, your own goal could be better.

There are three main ways to live: for the sake of satisfying the body, the mind, or the spirit. The first is achieved by providing anything from food and drink to bodily feelings. The second option is achieved by doing those activities that produce pleasant mental feelings, such as satisfying the desire for knowledge or power. The third is attained through yielding to instinctive love and compassion. Fewer is more when it comes to living a whole and full life. The man who lives solely for the pleasures of the body is foolish and out of tune with God; likewise, one who solely lives for the cold stimulation of the intellect is foolish and out of tune with God, while the man who dedicates his life to acts of altruism is foolish and out of tune with God in just the same way.

To fully harmonize with the Supreme, you must purpose to LIVE; to live fully, with body, mind, and spirit. Excess in one aspect creates insufficiency in the others. Your quest for health is the result of your yearning for more life and your God-given longing to live completely inside you. In order to achieve full life, physical, mental, and spiritual, keep your eyes fixed on the purpose and you will be granted knowledge. Whoever wishes to obey the Father’s will will know it. Wisdom is the greatest of all gifts, since it gives self-government.

However, you may also get knowledge, as well as physical energy, vitality, and life force. This substance’s energy is abundant and penetrates everything; you already get this energy in an instinctual and intuitive manner, but you may do so to a much larger extent if you apply yourself wisely. The measure of a man’s power is not God’s willingness to bestow it, but the will and intellect to take it for themselves. God provides you with everything, your only decision is how much you want.

According to Professor James, it seems as if there is no limit to mankind’s might, since they get their strength from the Supreme. A runner, when his physical strength seems to be completely gone, may get a “second wind” by running in a certain way; he then has fresh vigor and is able to continue forever. As he proceeds with determination, he might have another third, fourth, and fifth wind. We don’t know where the limit is, or how far he can go. When running, the runner must have full trust that the strength will come, must think constantly about strength, and must have complete assurance that he has it. He comes to a complete halt, and as he pauses to wait for a momentary boost of strength, he passes out. He seems to link to the source of energy in such a manner as to deliver him a fresh supply of energy.

A similar way, the patient who has unshakable confidence in health, whose goal puts him into alignment with the source, and who conducts voluntary activities in a certain way will be adequately supplied with energy and cured of all illnesses. God, who wants to completely express and participate in existence, is happy to provide a rich life to man. Action and response are equal, and when you want to lead a more abundant life, you should work toward a state of mental balance with the Supreme. The One Life approaches you, and your surroundings is infused with it. Then, if you believe in it, it is yours. If you want something, just ask for it. There is no limit to how much your Father wants to give you.
